"Over the past few years, we started hearing solo jaw harp cassettes by a Canadian musician who called himself Chik White. Some of them were straight-forward somewhat-folky blasts of righteousness, others used studio effects to emphasize the psychedelic qualities of the instrument (or so it seemed), and others were nature-based explorations of the jaw harp's drone possibilities. Heard individually they were striking, but listened to as a group, they went way beyond that. We got in touch with Chik (the soubriquet for Darcy Spidle when he's playing in this format) and suggested doing an LP that would provide a thorough overview of the work he's done thus far. He sent tapes of material that had been out previously, as well as a bunch of never-before-heard work, and we dove straight in. Stranger Calls To Land is the quite amazing result. The jaw harp is such an ancient, basic and humanistic instrument it has a strangely organic quality no matter how it's played. But many of Chik White's sessions take this essential element in extreme directions. This is particularly true for the two tracks we lifted from Raft Recordings From Economy (Notice Recordings MC, 2017), which was taped while floating on a homemade raft-cum-instrument in the Bay of Fundy. The sound, the concept, the whole gestalt of this project defy logic so utterly we've found it impossible to not be swept along by the waves, the wind and the weirdness of the entire process. While operating in Spidle mode, Darcy played in punk bands, ran the Divorce record label and founded the annual OBEY Convention up in Halifax. But we like to think his heart belongs to Chik White. There is, after all, something ineffable about a man and a jaw harp. If you don't agree after giving this LP a spin, we will eat a shoe. Heavy duty rubber bone
This bone is really heavy duty. It's got a groove down the middle of you you can put your pups favorite lickable treat. My 36 lb aussie enjoyed chewing on this and was nibbling the ends. This bone has held up to her chewing it with only a couple little pieces coming off.

Big hit with my super chewer.
Here’s an expanded, Amazon-friendly version that keeps a natural, human tone while adding helpful detail:
This is a truly heavy-duty chew bone and a great option for aggressive chewers. The first thing I noticed when I took it out of the package was the weight. It’s solid and well made, so it definitely feels like it’s built to last. Because of that, I would recommend being mindful when handing it to your dog and avoiding tossing or dropping it on hard floors or toes.
My dog, Yukon, was instantly thrilled with it. From the moment I gave it to him, he’s been carrying it around proudly and settling in to chew on it for long stretches of time. It’s kept his attention much better than lighter chews, and it’s holding up well to his strong jaws so far. I also love that it provides great enrichment and gives him a safe, satisfying outlet for his chewing instincts.
Overall, this chew bone has been a big hit in our house. If you have a powerful chewer and are looking for something durable that will actually keep them engaged, this is a solid choice. I’m very glad I picked it up for Yukon and would recommend it to other dog owners with heavy chewers.

Immediate Hit With My Power Chewer!
Immediate hit. Like, didn’t even make it fully out of the package before my dog was sniffling around the package, all excited.
I have a serious chewer, the kind that treats most toys like a personal challenge. This one has actually held up. It’s firm and tough, but not rock hard like those nylon bones that make me nervous about teeth. There’s a little bit of give to it, which I like.
The beef flavor must be legit because he keeps going back to it. This isn’t one of those toys that gets ignored after five minutes. He’s been happily gnawing on it and hasn’t managed to destroy it yet, which honestly says a lot in this house.
I also like the shape and texture. It’s easy for him to hold, and the ridges seem to keep him engaged longer. Bonus points if it’s helping his teeth even a little, because chewing is already his favorite hobby.
No toy is truly indestructible, but this has definitely earned its place in the “worth buying again” category. If you’ve got a medium to large dog who lives to chew, this one’s a solid win.

Great Chew Toy for Destructive Dogs
I got this toy for our lab/pit mix, who tends to destroy most chew toys. He seems to really enjoy it so far, preferring it over his other toys. I'm not sure if it’s just the novelty of a new toy, or whether he actually likes the "real beef flavor," but either way, he's definitely into it.
I’ve noticed some small teeth marks in the rubber, but nothing that concerns me too much at this point. My kids thought it looked pretty gross when I first pulled it out, which always makes me laugh! Overall, I'm very satisfied with the toy’s performance so far. It seems durable and I hope it lasts a long time--based on how things are going, I think it will. It's definitely worth the price.

Unusual looking, but durable and the pup likes it.
From the moment I took the box containing this toy out of its shipping box, my dog went nuts. He was not going to wait and had to have it NOW. Clearly the scent was quite appealing (if you’re a dog). He’s had it for a week now and he continues to enjoy it. This “meat bone” may not look appetizing to us, but my pup chews it regularly. The grooves and ridges seem to be interesting to him, and likely help with his dental health. The bone has held up quite well so far. My dog is an aggressive chewer and this one remains in good shape. Unlike plastic ones that leave a lot of sharp pieces all over - this one stays intact. Recommend.
