James Spitzer (b. 1936) was born in Milwaukee, WI, earning BS, MA, and MFA degrees at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He studied with well-known masters: Alfred Sessler, Dean Meeker and Warrington Colescott. Early in his career, he taught at Colleges and Universities in New York, Arizona, and Wisconsin, but turned to full-time drawing, painting, woodcut and sculpture.

Spitzer was strongly influenced by his teacher and mentor, Alfred Sessler and surely pays homage to many of SesslerÕs known qualities of tolerance, humanism and liberality, presenting these as unique imagery, injected with his own biting and ironic humor. Spitzer celebrates and pokes fun of humanity as a whole, but most often, he chides himself, and he is never far from the subject.

Jim Spitzer died December 3, 2018.

A sturdy holder
It’s made well and is versatile. I have the shelf as 2 separate pieces. Perhaps not meant to be separated, I have done so. The pipping pieces are mostly unfixed, so your options are greater as to your personal finish. I recommend greatly.
