One volume in the greater series of books outlining portions of the James A. De Rothschild Collection in Buckinghamshire. "The first section of this catalogue is devoted to the Meissen and other European porcelain, among which are a number of figures mounted in ormolu by the mid-18th century Parisian marchands-merciers; there are also smaller objets de vertu, and precious pieces mounted in silver-gilt. The greater part of this porcelain was made at the famous Electoral Saxon factory at Meissen -- the leading European porcelain factory from its establishment in 1710 until the Seven Years' War; but there are also examples from the Frankenthal Factory and from the English and Italian manufactures at Chelsea and Doccia. ... The Oriental ceramics at Waddesdon also date predominantly from the 18th century and essentially they represent the types of Chinese and Japanese porcelain to be found in French houses, rather than in English, at that time. They include famille verte and famille rose enamelled porcelain, and some unusual examples of Arita and Kutani wares from Japan. There is also a fine range of pieces with single-coloured glazes, such as the so-called clair de lune, truitee and celadon varieties, a large proportion of the pieces being mounted in French ormolu." The annotated and illustrated catalogue presents a total of 103 pieces.
